Create beautiful prints using this simple printmaking technique with gelli plates. You will be guided through the process of inking the plates and taking impressions using foliage and plant material. Be creative as you start to develop images further with layers. This is a great introduction to printmaking with no previous experience required.
Wildflowers at home

Local wildflower grower Andy Houghton will share his knowledge of wildflowers including how to grow them and the positive effect this can have. There will be an opportunity to see a range of plants and test identification skills.'

On the stall Fiona will illustrate some relationships between wildlife and plant habitats in Cwm and show the results of the previous night's moth survey.
Introduction to lichens

In this session we hope to show you the main types of lichen forms and explain some basic lichen biology. This will help you to recognise the important external features of lichens that help in identification. We'll show you the correct way to use hand lenses and practice using them indoors and outside to identify some easily recognisable species, using useful guides.

Bat walk

A walk through Cwm looking out for our bats and listening to them. This will be an opportunity to discover the different types of bats we have in the Penmachno Valley and where they are likely to roost.

Sam is a bat expert from the Gwynedd Bats group and this will be a return visit to Penmachno Valley.

Creative Box Making
with Jane

We will recycle magazine pages to create folded paper boxes with lids. You will find they are quick and simple to fold as we make them together step by step.
​
They start with a square which makes then easy to size up or down so once you have the technique you can use different papers to make any size box. They are perfect for storing treasures at home or as gift boxes.

Local Birds

A pictorial review of birdlife visible in the upper reaches of the Machno valley across a typical year. The review will include residents, migrants and occasional visitors. Participants are welcome to contribute their own `bird spots` to build as wide a picture as possible of birdlife in the area. The session will be suited to a broad range of participants from complete beginners to those with a keen interest in `twitching`.

We will meet by the house at 2pm and hear a bit about the history, before heading off for a short walk with Ioan Davies, the area warden for Eryri National Park, to explore the natural beauty of the Wybrnant valley.
